Dick started his working life as a sea going Radio Electronics Officer before starting his career in the civil service first with the ministry of defence and later on with the Department for Transport. Although a qualified electronics engineer, over the past 25 years he has work almost exclusively in the Field of Quality Management and Business Improvement where he has helped a number of public and private sector organisations to build and operate their business management systems.

In recent years Dick has developed specialist knowledge and experience in building Business Management systems incorporating ISO9001 and BSI-OHSAS18001 quality and health and safety systems as part of this he has trained many internal auditors and assessors.

Working with senior management teams to develop corporate strategies and tactics he has prepared and implemented corporate balanced scorecards and performance dashboards for many organisations. Mentoring Senior Managers has provided Dick with a sound background to work closely at all levels in an organisation. Developing process improvement and enacting change using improvement techniques such as Lean Thinking and Six Sigma have also proved beneficial when reviewing overall organisational performance for National Quality awards.

His process improvement and re-engineering skills have been in much demand in every organisation he has worked with.

Dick has also conducted a number of successful self-assessments in the Agency (using the EFQM Excellence Model) and over the last five years he has acted as an assessor on a number of the British Quality Foundation’s teams involved in the assessment of potential UK excellence award winners as part of their UK Excellence Awards programme.
