ISO14001 is an international standard which specifies the requirements for an auditable environmental management system which enables an organisation to develop and implement a suitable policy and set of objectives which addresses its significant environmental aspects.
It should be remembered that it does not establish absolute requirements for environmental performance beyond the commitments the organisation wishes to make within its own environmental policy and any applicable legal requirements.
It is based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) methodology and has been designed to be compatible with ISO 9001 to ensure the two standards can easily be integrated by the user community.
Standards like ISO9001 and ISO14001 are voluntary and there is at present no legal requirement to adopt the standard.
However, many organisations now make these standards and subsequent registration a major requirement for all of their suppliers. You will find that many tender documents now ask a specific question about the organisations quality and/or environmental management systems.
Any voluntary standards does not remove the need for organisations to both understand and comply with the mandatory requirements for their industry, most will have to comply with legal requirements involving health and safety, data protection and dangerous or hazardous material or practices.
With the compatibility between the management systems and the increasing requirements from suppliers to address these issues, it is possible to gain major benefits by introducing an integrated system at the same time.
We can help you make the most of your management system by developing a system that covers all aspects and works for you.
We will not produce mountains of paperwork that once finished go into a filing cabinet and are forgotten until the next audit is due. The systems should be part of your day to day work and help you to improve the way your organisation actually works over a period of time.
We can produce an interactive management system that works on your Intranet and uses minimal paper documentation.
