Prince II

In most activity based environments people will accept that improvements can be made in the way of working or managing new or changing requirements.

PRINCE (Projects In Controlled Environments) is a structured set of principles and techniques for managing projects and change in a considered and controlled manner. It is largely structured common sense which brings together many standard and well known project management techniques as well as some powerful techniques of its own.

Without a methodology for managing projects, those who commission projects and change, and those who work in it, will have very different ideas on how things should be organised and when different aspects of the projects should be completed.

A good project management methodology will guide the change activity through a controlled, well managed, visible set of activities to achieve the desired results. The key principles of good project management to achieve successful project can be seen to be:

PRINCE provides a framework for a methodology which can be adapted to suit the size and scale of the project. It covers the management of the project and resources involved in carrying out the activities of a project and can be used in almost any environment or situation. It is in essence a process based approach to project management but the very success of PRINCE relies on tailoring the methodology itself to suit the circumstances of any particular project and this is critical to its successful use.
